Our DigHum Workshop Friday followed up on the information presented at our internal kick-off: This is the rhythm we will follow on our DigHum Fridays. After the official days / colloquiums, we wil make use of the next Friday to reflext on input, ask questions, discuss standpoints and reflect on transfer.
The Workshop today was dedicated to our external kick-off which takes place on November 10 at Urania Sternwarte. W
But first, we reflected on: what makes the doctoral college unique? Here are the answers:
Organisation
- 3 universities coming together in a different context
- Interdisciplinarity = combining parallel fields
Methodology
- From theory to practice
- Breaking up day-to-day scientific work
- Answer technology questions evolving over the past years and today
Process
- Follow societal development
- Identifying blind spots
- Looking at opportunities rather than pitfalls
- Political dimensions of technology
- Link to our society
These statements are the perfect transmission to the flow and contents / speeches of the kick-off!
The full agenda and invite is available
- on our webpage - Sign up is required
- also on our LinkedIN Page.
The event follows a clear flow of speeches and presentations: followed from strategy till implementation of our college.
The point, where you come into place: Time to shine with your project
- 11:10 – 12:30 Interview-Spotlight on PhD Projects: What, why, how. Interdisciplinarity in research practice
PhD Students presenting their projects: short interview in pairs, 3 – 5 minutes, total 10 minutes. In pairs, you will present your PhD Project to the audience: Keep in mind, this is a "diverse" audience, so the presentation shall also be relatable for a non-scientific guest at our kick-off. Your colleague will ask questions so you can explain your project along those questions. - During the lunch break, you will discuss your project and reply to questions. For this you will prepare a "Poster" which covers the main aspects of your project.
So we kindly ask you to prepare the following:
- The interview together with your collegue, max. length of 10mins for both
Poster + Slide: 5 Key points of messaging
- What? In 2 sentences, sum up your research project.
- Why? What motivated you to choose this PhD project? Why is it important?
- How? How will you gather data, methods, frame your research, etc.
- With whom? How do you approach interdisciplinarity and exchange with your colleagues and other disciplines?
- Impact? What is the broader impact of your research beyond academia? (intersection science, technology, and society)
- Do not worry about layout - We will prepare and design them - you will see them obviously beforehand to sign them off.

Please hand in your input for slide and poster no later than November, 5th.

Impressions from the Workshop by Anna Kuprian
Today marks the official start of our Doctoral College with its CoWorking Fridays: We were happy to inviting the entire faculty to this first gathering.
The presentations by the programme managers introduced to:
- the dighum CoLAB (the digital space you are just navigating..) which serves as our online information platform, including also the calendar with regular updates on our colloquium, workshops and events from our ecosystem
- information and guidance for the DocCollege. This information can by found under the coLAB section Doctoral College Infohub.
We enjoyed the lively exchange taking place at our coworking space EDUCATION Lab and are looking forward to our DigHum Fridays.
A review of the presentations will always be available under the section It's DigHum Friday: Programme.
