General information

The Fellowship Program of the IUBL enables national and international scientists to deepen subject-specific experience and skills, to work on existing research projects or to carry out their own research project. All resources of the two laboratories at KL Krems and TU Vienna can be used. This work is carried out under the supervision of IUBL laboratory staff. During their stay, researchers are considered members of IUBL and take part in meetings and internal events. 

The aim is to gain professional expertise in an IUBL field of competence and at the same time experience international and interdisciplinary exchange and dialog with local experts, establish networking contacts for potential future ventures and increase the joint research output in the form of publications.

Key data

• Focus: The fellowship has a scientific focus within the core competencies of the IUBL.  
• Duration: minimum 3 to maximum 12 months. Minimum academic requirement: Master's level
• Work plan: A brief description as well as an individual process (work packages) of the planned research project including the desired goals (milestones) must be defined in advance. Successful completion of research projects is not guaranteed.
• Documentation: At the end of the fellowship, a short project report on the work carried out must be prepared or a manuscript submitted for submission to a scientific journal.
• Contracts: A cooperation agreement must be concluded between KL Krems and/or TU Vienna and the home institution. This regulates insurance aspects as well as possible confidentiality or exploitation rights to the project results.  
• Employment: Employment is guaranteed by the home institution by means of a cooperation agreement (stating the monthly salary) for the entire fellowship period. A fellowship does not include employment at KL Krems or TU Vienna. The person is a visiting scientist.  
• Funding: Employees of the KL University Hospitals have the opportunity to take advantage of appropriate funding for research leave. Alternative financing via scholarships is possible. Self-financing or personal scholarships that support individual travel and living expenses do not meet these criteria and are not eligible as funding for a fellowship.
• Commercial interest: For research work with direct or indirect commercial interest, an individual supervision fee is agreed in advance.
