Introduction

The lab tracking system provides real-time spatial tracking for performers, objects, and cameras within the Mixed-Reality Lab.
It consists of two complementary tracking solutions: Qualisys and Moverse, which together address different requirements in terms of precision, setup complexity, and flexibility.
Depending on the experiment or demo, users select the appropriate tracking system and forward the tracking data to the required application.

System Overview

The lab holds two tracking Systems to support different use cases:

  • Qualisys is a marker-based optical tracking system installed in the Main-Lab Area.
It provides high-precision tracking of objects, cameras, and performers, but requires markers and has therefore a longer setup and calibration process. It is typically used when accuracy and measurement reliability are critical.

  • Moverse is a markerless tracking system only available in the LED-Wall Area.
It is best suited for fast setup and ease of use, allowing quick capture of human motion without markers. While less precise than Qualisys, it is well suited for interactive demos and rapid experimentation.

Typical use cases

  • High-precision tracking of props/rigs/objects for research measurements (typically using Qualisys)

  • Camera and scene tracking for virtual production / visualization workflows (typically using Qualisys)

  • Interactive demos and rapid prototyping where setup speed matters (typically using Moveverse)

  • Full-body / performer tracking for immersive experiences

  • Validation / comparison tests between tracking approaches (if relevant in your lab)

Tracking volume

  • The available tracking volume depends on the selected system and the current lab configuration (camera placement, calibration, and environment).
