Das zentrale Tool für Distance Learning an der TU Wien.

Das Distance Learning Team empfiehlt als zentrales Tool zur Abwicklung der Lehrveranstaltungen TUWEL, das auf der Open Source Software Moodle basierende Learning Management System. Mit dieser Plattform ist es möglich, vielseitige Aufgaben im Bereich der Präsenzlehre, Distanzlehre und Hybridformen zu bearbeiten.

Die Plattform steht Lehrenden und Universitätsangehörigen sowie Studierenden zur Unterstützung der Lehre und des Studiums zur Verfügung. Lehrende der TU Wien können dabei ihre Kurse mit Online-Ressourcen, zahlreichen Aktivitäten, Abgabetools, Foren, Terminkoordination, Feedbackzyklen, Chats, Online- und Offline-Prüfungen, uvm. gestalten und dadurch ihre Präsenzlehre bereichern. Zusätzlich können unterschiedliche Formen der Kommunikation sowohl zwischen Lehrenden und Studierenden als auch von Studierenden untereinander genutzt werden. LVA-Aufzeichnungen können mit Hilfe des LectureTube Service bereitgestellt werden.

Unterstützung und Hilfe

Neben der umfasseden TUWEL Dokumentation bieten wir auch einen Ticket-Support (unter support@tuwel.tuwien.ac.at) sowie Training und auch individuelle Beratung in der digitalen Lehre an. Weitere Informationen zu unserem gesamten Beratungsangebot finden Sie im TUWEL Tutorials Kurs (Abschnitt "Support & Training"). Hinweis: Es ist eine einmalige Einschreibung in den Kurs notwendig.

Als spezielles Service bieten wir Lehrenden eine einstündige Distance Learning Online Office Hour an. Während dieser Office Hour können Fragen zu Themen wie TUWEL, LectureTube, Zoom und sonstigen Tools der digitalen Lehre besprochen werden. Die Distance Learning Office Hours finden zu folgenden Zeiten statt:

  • dienstags zwischen 16:00-17:00 und donnerstags , 16zwischen 10:00-1711:00 00 über Zoom (online)

titleWie kommen Studierende in den TUWEL Kurs?

Es gibt zwei Möglichkeiten, wie Studierende in den TUWEL Kurs kommen:

  • Studierende können durch Lehrende zum Kurs hinzugefügt werden, indem Sie als Lehrende/r in Ihrem TUWEL Kurs Studierende importieren - siehe hierzu folgende Anleitung: TISS Daten holen / YouTube Video
  • Studierende klicken auf den Link "Zum TUWEL Online Kurs" in der TISS LVA und werden dadurch in den TUWEL Kurs eingeschrieben. Beachten Sie hierbei, dass der TUWEL Kurs in TISS angekündigt werden muss.

titleKann ich meine selbst produzierten Videos in TUWEL selber hochladen?

Ja. Sie können selbst produzierte Videos seit September 2021 ganz einfach mit LectureTube in Ihrem Kurs hochladen und den Studierenden zur Verfügung stellen (als Episode oder als Serie). Diese Funktion rufen Sie links in der Navigationsleiste Ihres TUWEL-Kurses auf.

Hinweis: Diese Funktion ist können Sie nur verfügbarverwenden, wenn die Lehrveranstaltung in TISS verfügbar ist und eine LectureTube-Serie angelegt wurde. Weitere Infos Informationen und Anleitungen finden Sie demnächst hier.

Des Weiteren können Sie auch auf Aufzeichnungen in Hörsälen mit LectureTube-Ausstattung zurückgreifen oder die TU-interne Videoplattform TUpeerTube verwenden, um Lehrvideos anzubieten. Weitere Infos und Anleitungen finden Sie nach Anmeldung im Bereich Distance Learning Good Practice.

Sollten Sie einen Institutsserver zur Verfügung haben, dann können Sie die Videos dort hochladen und dann in TUWEL verlinken. Beachten Sie, dass das evtl. eine etwas erhöhte Last auf Ihrem Server beim Abruf durch die Studierenden erzeugen kann. Stellen Sie sicher, dass die Videos mit einer guten Videokomprimierung verkleinert wurden.

The central tool for Distance Learning at TU Wien.

TUWEL (TU Wien E-Learning) is based on the open source software Moodle, which is one of the most commonly used learning platforms worldwide.

The platform can be used by lecturers and employees of TU Wien as well as students. Lecturers can enhance their teaching with online resources, multiple activities, submission tools, forums, schedule coordination, feedback cycles, chats, online and offline exams and a lot more. Furthermore, forums can be used for the communication between lecturers and students as well as between students themselves. Recordings of lectures can be made available withLectureTube Service.

The Teaching Support Center TUWEL-Team has put together and provided a variety of different support information on the use of  TUWEL. There are

covering almost all questions. Some of them are available only in German at the moment.

We kindly invite you to share your positive experiences such as good solutions or best practice with your colleagues at this course (you need to sign up for the course once) here. You can also put your questions there.

Distance Learning - Office Hours

As a special service of the Teaching Support Center, we offer to teachers a one-hour TSC Distance Learning Online Office Hour. During this office hour, questions on topics such as TUWEL, LectureTube, TU Connect Zoom and other services of the Teaching Support Center can be discussed. To give as many people as possible the option to participate, the TSC Distance Learning Online Office Hours will take place at the following times:

  • Tue, 16:00-17:00 via Zoom (online)
  • Thu, 1610:00-1711:00 via Zoom (online)

Nothing will change for you. You can continue to use TUWEL as you have done before.

To make your start with e-learning as easy as possible, a TUWEL course has been created automatically for every lecture (LVA) in TISS. 

For ideas on how to use TUWEL for your activities and work materials you can check at the website of the Teaching Support Center (German only) here. There you will find a TUWEL course showing you activities and work material from a student's perspective.

Please note: Should you have an already existing course in TUWEL, nothing will change for you.

There are 2 options how students can enter your TUWEL course:

  • you can import students by using the TISS import function in the corresponding TUWEL course: [de] TISS Daten holen / YouTube Video
  • and students can click the link in the corresponding TISS lecture "To TUWEL online course" to be redirected to the TUWEL online course

titleCan I upload videos I have produced on my own on to TUWEL?

Yes. Since September 2021, you can easily upload self-produced videos to your course using LectureTube and make them available to students (as an episode or series). You access this function on the left in the navigation bar of your TUWEL course.

Note: This function is only accessible if the course is available in TISS and a LectureTube series has been created. You can find more information and instructions hereNo. We kindly ask you to refrain from uploading videos you have produced on your own to TUWEL. Please resort to make recordings in the existing lecture halls with LectureTube equipment or use the new TU-internal video platform TUpeerTube to offer teaching videos. Further information and instructions can be found after registration in the section Distance Learning Good Practice.

Should you have institute servers at your disposal, you may upload your videos there and then link them to TUWEL. Please note, the accessing by students may possibly cause a slightly higher load on your servers. Make sure your videos have been reduced by means of a good video compression.
